How we look after your information
This policy explains what Theatre Ratings collects through our waitlist, why, and the choices you have. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). For where your information is stored and how it's protected, read our data handling statement.
Who we are
Theatre Ratings is an independent platform for Australian live theatre, founded by Kersh Sivakumaran and based in Sydney on Gadigal Country. You can contact us about privacy at hello@theatreratings.com.au.
What we collect
All sign-ups give us a name, email, city and the roles they're signing up as. Depending on your role, we may also collect:
- Audience members: the types of shows and genres you like, how often you go, what you usually spend on a ticket and a recent favourite show.
- Artists: your professions, CV, headshot and photographer credit, website and social accounts, other online profiles and your next show.
- Producers: your company name, company profile or program files, website and social accounts, other links and your next production.
- Theatres and venues: venue name, suburb, venue type, your role, an optional contact phone number, website and social accounts.
- Critics: your byline, where you publish, your website, author pages and mailing list link, and whether you'd like to join the early critic trial.
- Anything you choose to tell us in the form's open text fields.
We ask you to remove phone numbers, home addresses and dates of birth from any CV or document before uploading it. If we find them, we won't use them, and we don't include them in any profile.
Information from public sources
With your permission, we use publicly available information to build your profile or venue page. This may include your website and social accounts, published cast lists, programs, festival listings, ticketing pages and published reviews. We only do this for people and venues who have given permission through the form, and you'll see the result before anything goes live.
Accessibility preferences
Audience members can tell us which accessibility information they'd like shown on listings. Because this can relate to health or disability, we only collect it with your consent, use it only to tailor the listings you see, and never send it to our email or marketing tools.
Why we collect it
- To create your account, profile or venue page ready for launch.
- To recommend shows to audience members.
- To contact you about your sign-up, your draft profile, a chat you've asked for or the early critic trial.
- To send launch news and updates, only if you've ticked the box to receive them.
- To understand what the sector needs from Theatre Ratings, using answers such as the challenges producers share with us.
We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising by anyone else.
Your profile and your control
Nothing goes live without your approval. We'll send you a draft of your profile or venue page to check. After launch you can edit it or ask us to remove it at any time. Critics in the early trial can pull out at any time, and we'll remove extracts of their reviews.
Emails from us
If you've opted in to updates, each email includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing doesn't remove your profile. We'll still contact you about your sign-up or profile if we need to.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you're on the waitlist or have a profile with us. If Theatre Ratings hasn't launched within 18 months of your sign-up, we'll delete your waitlist information and files. We delete uploaded CVs and documents within 30 days of your profile being approved, unless you ask us to keep them.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, by emailing hello@theatreratings.com.au. We'll respond within 30 days.
People under 18
The waitlist is for people aged 18 and over. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian can contact us on your behalf.
Complaints
If you're concerned about how we've handled your information, email us first and we'll work to resolve it. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy as Theatre Ratings grows. If a change affects how we use information you've already given us, we'll let you know by email.
